Renaissance in Canberra

At the end of March we took the road to Canberra with another couple, mainly to visit the Renaissance exhibition at the National Gallery on tour from Accademia Carrara. The exhibition principally demonstrated  the strong patronage of the arts by the Italian church in the pre-reformation century 1440-1540.  We liked a simple traditional depiction of Mary and child by Jacopo Bellini (1440) and a very conversational scene of Jesus at the well by Allessandro Moretto (ca 1515-1520).

Later we also visited the War Memorial and enjoyed a two hour guided tour through the battles that dominated Australia's 20 th century international relationships. These snaps show sad discoveries from death camps found in 1945.

On a brighter note there is plenty of interesting food to be had in the capital. Here  are examples of healthy breakfast in the shopping centre and fine dining in a French restaurant (Courgette- www.courgette.com.au We highly recommend.)

Picasso at the Sydney Gallery

We stayed in Paris opposite the Musée Picasso twice in two years but the Musée has been closed for renovations. So we were glad to have the opportunity to see the travelling exhibition of works from the Musée in Sydney. We gained a good overview of his art over a lifetime. He is not an easy artist to like, but is at his most attractive in his early years and when playfully doing sculpture from bits and pieces

In Sydney - Waverley to Coogee

We went to Sydney at the end of February to view the Picasso exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. We took the opportunity to walk the cliff path from Waverley (starting near the home my father built in the street at the north of the cemetery) and ending at Coogee.
