Copenhagen on Saturday

We rose with the sun after a good sleep and looked out over the roof tops to Christiansborg Palace. With the light shining on its spire we could tell that all was well with the world!
After a solid breakfast, we spent the day strolling towards the Tivoli gardens although we didn't go in. This place is something like Luna Park but in much more picturesque surroundings. The area surrounding it is particularly touristy with multiple hotels, many of the more expensive variety. From there we strolled back the way we came passing a fine open colonnade on our way to the Thorvaldsens museum. This is a private collection which is open to the public and is one man's view of art. Most of it was copies of well known statues with a modest number of paintings by local artists and a small amount of furniture. Of greater interest was the fresco on the outside of the building depicting the unloading of ships in the 19th century. Entrance to this museum was free today. This building situated as it is in a square oversaw a market which consisted of food (plenty to sample) and antiques and bric a brac, mostly the latter.
From there we strolled to our. Next stop which was a hot dog shop and a very pleasant seat under a tree where we ate the aforementioned hot dog while watching the passing scenery. We were surprised at the number of Australians around. Princess Mary must have put Dk on the map for Aussies. It was a beautiful sunny day, so some of this team also took the opportunity for a siesta followed by the short walk back to the hotel to prepare dinner.
Dinner was at AOC, a Michelin starred restaurant. The food was interesting, innovative, original, very Danish and beautifully presented but oh so salty which was very disappointing. We had a six course degustation with matched wines most of which were very new to us.

  1. Very impressed indeed by your eclectic dining: hot dog for lunch, Michelin-star restaurant for dinner!
