The castle

After a good nights sleep, we decided a trip to the castle would be in order. It is fairly warm here and humid so although it is not far, it felt like a long walk. Xanthe was full of energy so that made it easier. When we arrived, she and Jeremy climbed the tower and Tony and I went to the tourist shop for a look.
This was followed by a walk through the cathedral of the castle. It was very ornate, and of course no pictures are allowed. There were about a million people in there but it was still cooler inside than out! The interesting thing that I noted is the lack of seating which is not surprising since Tony assures me that seating was a late introduction to churches. It was pretty hot by the time we got out of there and we felt that Xanthe had probably had enough castle so we went in search of the dragon cave. When we got to the tourist office we found that we were quite near to it but unfortunately the ticket office was back up the hill and all of us were too tired to tramp back! Fortunately, there was soap bubble activity at the information centre which held X's attention for a good while and meant that we didn't have to go in search of the dragon tickets. We started a slow walk back to the hotel. When we arrived at the exit of the dragon cave X decided she needed to climb the rocks there which she proceeded to do several times before moving on. The walk back was slow with a stop for iced coffee and a rest in the shade as well as a look in Corpus Christi church which had a boat and mermaids so it satisfied the need for mermaids amongst other things! We also walked past a playground which unfortunately was not usable and was locked. On arrival at the hotel we collapsed for an afternoon rest.

  1. It would be interesting to know why the chairs (assuming that's what they are) are set up in the open.
