Farewell to Bornholm

After an idle family Tuesday we went with Jörn and Ulla Henriette and children for dinner across the island in Svaneke. Jeremy has a lurgy.
Svaneke is an idyllic fishing and farming town much beloved of tourist brochures. Above the harbour large two storey yellow, orange, and red limed timber framed buildings with their crooked multipane windows are mostly former farm complexes and stand around former farmyards. There are still plenty of boats in the small harbour, but few would still be used for commercial fishing. Most of the farming is now of grain, and since it is harvest time the large machinery was still busy at 9.00pm when we went home.
Our meal was in a grill house, where we chose a "menu" consisting of a 200gm steak grilled and baked with a copious seasoned mash potato, so the effect was like shepherd's pie, though the steak was judiciously done pink. The accompaniments were salad bar and ice cream bar. A simple formula but satisfying food.
This afternoon, accompanied by Jeremy and Xanthe, we take a ferry to Sweden and train to Copenhagen. The journey to our hotel should take about 2.5- 3 hours.
Sunset photos are from the beach at Boderne where we were staying.
